Zoho Social vs Hootsuite vs Buffer: Which Pricing Model Suits Your Team?

Three tools, three completely different billing units. Whether Zoho Social is cheap or expensive for you depends almost entirely on how many brands, channels and people you have.

Most social media tool comparisons list features side by side and declare a winner. That is the wrong exercise, because these three products bill on entirely different units. Zoho Social prices around brands and the team members attached to them. Hootsuite prices per user. Buffer prices per connected channel. Two teams of identical size can end up with wildly different quotes depending on which shape they happen to be.

So the useful question is not which tool is best, but which billing unit matches how your marketing actually runs. Here is how that plays out in 2026.

The three billing models, side by side

ToolBilling unitEntry paid tier (2026)Where the bill grows
Zoho SocialPer brand, with team seats bundled by tierStandard around $15/month, or about $10/month billed annuallyAdding brands and team members, or stepping up to Agency tiers
HootsuitePer userStandard around $99 per user/monthEvery additional person who needs a login
BufferPer channelEssentials around $5 per channel/monthEvery additional social profile you connect

Pricing is indicative for 2026 and changes regularly — all three vendors adjust plans and packaging. Verify current pricing on each vendor's official site before you budget, and note that Indian invoices add 18% GST.

Read your own shape first

Before comparing anything, write down three numbers: how many distinct brands you publish for, how many social channels those brands use, and how many people need to log in. Those three numbers decide the answer more than any feature list will.

  • One brand, many channels, small team — Zoho Social's brand-based pricing is usually the cheapest, because channels come bundled rather than metered
  • One brand, few channels, no team — Buffer's per-channel pricing is hard to beat; a three-channel setup costs very little
  • Several brands or clients — the picture changes fast; Zoho's Agency tiers exist for this, and per-channel pricing starts multiplying
  • Large team, heavy approvals, compliance requirements — this is the territory Hootsuite's per-user pricing is built around, and it is priced accordingly

The trap we see most often is a five-person marketing team paying per-user pricing for people who log in twice a month to approve a post. Per-user billing punishes exactly the reviewers and stakeholders you want involved in the approval chain.

What Zoho Social actually includes

Zoho Social runs a free tier that connects one brand across a handful of channels, but it deliberately omits scheduling, the content calendar and analytics — which is to say, it omits the reasons you would buy a social tool. Treat it as a look around, not a plan.

The paid tiers step up roughly like this: Standard adds scheduling and the calendar, Professional adds deeper publishing and monitoring, and Premium adds the collaboration layer — content approvals, collaborative discussions, custom roles, UTM parameters, custom and shared reports, and a larger channel allowance. Premium also includes a small monthly pool of AI credits for content assistance.

The integration argument, which is the real one

If you already run Zoho CRM, the comparison stops being about publishing features. Zoho Social connects to CRM and Desk natively, which means two things worth actual money:

  • Social automation rules can push people who interact with your accounts — someone who mentions your brand, for example — straight into CRM as leads or contacts, without an export step
  • Because those leads land in CRM with their source intact, you can report on which social channels produced revenue rather than which produced impressions

That second point is where most social reporting falls down. Hootsuite and Buffer both report engagement well; neither can tell you that a particular channel produced three closed deals last quarter unless you build the plumbing yourself. If the pipeline attribution matters to you, staying inside one ecosystem is usually the cheaper route to it.

Where Zoho Social is the wrong answer

We would not recommend it in a few cases, and it is worth being straight about them. If you manage many client brands and need genuinely separate workspaces, the Agency tiers are a real cost step — compare them honestly against alternatives rather than assuming the Zoho option wins. If your team is large and your approval chain is heavily governed, evaluate the enterprise tools properly. And if you are one person posting to three channels, Buffer's per-channel pricing at the low end is difficult to argue with.

How to decide in an afternoon

Price all three against your own three numbers — brands, channels, people — rather than against the marketing pages. Then ask one question: do you need social activity to show up as pipeline? If yes, and you are already on Zoho, the integration usually settles it. If no, buy on price and publishing workflow alone.

As a certified Zoho partner we set up Social alongside CRM regularly, including the automation rules that decide which interactions become leads and which are just noise. That filtering step matters more than people expect — done badly it fills CRM with junk records. If you want the setup scoped before you commit to licences, a short call is usually enough.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zoho Social included in Zoho One?

Zoho Social is part of the Zoho One bundle, though the edition and limits available through the bundle may differ from the standalone plans. If Social is a significant part of your requirement, confirm the bundled edition's brand and channel allowances against your needs before assuming Zoho One covers it, and check current terms on Zoho's official site.

Does the Zoho Social free plan do enough to start with?

Not really. The free tier connects one brand across a limited set of channels, but leaves out scheduling, the content calendar and analytics. It is fine for seeing how the interface works, but any real publishing workflow needs at least the Standard tier.

Can Zoho Social create leads in Zoho CRM automatically?

Yes. Social automation rules can add people who interact with your accounts — brand mentions, for instance — into CRM as leads or contacts. Set the rules narrowly, though; broad rules create a lot of low-quality records that your sales team will learn to ignore.
