Zoho SalesIQ: Pricing, Chatbots and Whether Live Chat Earns Its Seat
SalesIQ is cheap per seat and easy to switch on, which is exactly why most deployments end up as an ignored chat bubble. Here's what the plans actually gate, and what to build before you turn it on.
Related service: Zoho Marketing Automation →Zoho SalesIQ is the live chat and website-visitor tracking product in the Zoho suite. It sits on your marketing site, tells you who is browsing, and lets a human or a bot start a conversation. Because it is inexpensive per seat and takes ten minutes to install, it gets switched on casually — and then quietly abandoned when nobody has time to watch the queue. The teams that get value from it treat it as a routing problem, not a chat widget.
What SalesIQ actually gives you
It is easy to assume SalesIQ is just a chat box. The tracking layer is arguably the more useful half:
- Live visitor feed — who is on your site right now, which pages, from which company and geography
- Visitor scoring, so returning prospects and known CRM contacts surface above cold traffic
- Proactive triggers — open a chat when someone has been on the pricing page for 45 seconds
- Zobot, the chatbot builder, for qualifying and routing outside working hours
- Two-way sync with Zoho CRM and Zoho Desk, so chats become leads or tickets without retyping
- Channel connections including WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram on the higher tiers
Pricing: how the plans are structured
SalesIQ is priced per operator per month, with a permanently free tier. Three things move between plans: how many visitors you can track, how many chatbots you get, and how sophisticated those bots are allowed to be.
| Plan | Indicative price (India, annual billing) | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Free | ₹0 — 3 operators | ~10,000 tracked visitors and 100 chats a month; basic widget only |
| Basic | ≈ ₹600 / operator / month | ~50,000 visitors, ~1,000 chats, departments, canned replies, one bot |
| Professional | ≈ ₹1,000 / operator / month | ~100,000 visitors, unlimited chats, Zobot, visitor scoring, messaging channels |
| Enterprise | ≈ ₹1,500 / operator / month | ~200,000 visitors, AI-assisted bots, Answer Bot, API access, chat translation |
Figures are indicative for 2026, billed annually and before 18% GST; monthly billing costs more, and US-dollar list prices differ from Indian rates. Visitor and bot-session allowances change with Zoho's packaging — always verify current pricing on Zoho's official SalesIQ pricing page before you budget.
The per-seat cost is genuinely low compared with Intercom or Drift. The number that actually catches people out is the tracked-visitor allowance. A site doing 150,000 sessions a month on a Basic plan will exhaust its allowance in the first fortnight, and tracking simply stops until the cycle resets — which looks like a broken product rather than a limit. Check your analytics before choosing a tier, not after.
Zobot, Answer Bot, and the difference that matters
Zoho uses 'bot' for two quite different things, and the distinction decides which plan you need.
Zobot is a flow builder. You define the questions, the branches and the handoff rules. It is deterministic, it is predictable, and for lead qualification — budget, timeline, company size, route to the right rep — that predictability is a feature, not a limitation. Most B2B use cases never need more than this.
Answer Bot is the retrieval-style option on the top tier: it reads intent and answers from your knowledge base or Zoho Desk articles. It is genuinely useful if you have a mature help centre and repetitive product questions. If your knowledge base is thin, it will confidently return nothing useful, and you have paid for the privilege.
Setting it up so it doesn't become noise
- Define departments first — sales, support, billing — and route by page. Someone on /pricing is not a support ticket
- Set honest business hours, and give the bot a real out-of-hours job: capture email, book a slot, set expectations on reply time
- Connect CRM before launch, so a known contact's chat lands on their existing record instead of creating a duplicate lead
- Use proactive triggers sparingly. One rule on high-intent pages beats six rules that make the site feel like a timeshare pitch
- Agree an internal response SLA. An unanswered chat widget is worse for trust than no widget at all
- Review the visitor feed weekly for the first month — it tells you which pages attract buyers, which is useful even if nobody chats
When SalesIQ is worth it — and when it isn't
It earns its place when you have consistent inbound traffic, a team that can respond within minutes during working hours, and a sales motion where speed to first contact genuinely changes win rates. It also makes sense as a cheap WhatsApp and social inbox if you are already on Zoho CRM.
It is a poor fit if your traffic is low, if your deals are relationship-led and start by referral, or if nobody owns the queue. In those cases a well-designed form and a fast follow-up process will outperform a chat widget that goes unanswered for four hours. We would rather tell you that during scoping than sell you seats you will stop logging into.
The practical summary
Size the plan by your monthly visitor count, not your operator count — that is the constraint people hit first. Start on the tier that covers your traffic with a single bot, connect it to CRM properly, and only move up when you can point at conversations the bot mishandled. As a certified Zoho partner we usually configure SalesIQ alongside CRM routing rather than as a standalone install, because the value is in where the conversation lands, not in the chat bubble itself.
Frequently asked questions
Is the free SalesIQ plan usable for a real business?
For a small site with modest traffic, yes — three operators, around 10,000 tracked visitors and 100 chats a month is enough to test whether anyone actually chats you. The ceiling arrives quickly: no Zobot, limited history and a hard chat cap. Treat it as a trial of demand rather than a long-term setup.
Do I need SalesIQ if I already have Zoho CRM and Zoho Desk?
Only if you want a live channel on your website. CRM captures form submissions and Desk handles tickets; SalesIQ adds the real-time layer and the anonymous-visitor tracking neither of the others has. If your site traffic is low or nobody can staff a queue, it adds cost without adding pipeline.
Can SalesIQ handle WhatsApp conversations?
The higher tiers connect WhatsApp along with Instagram and Telegram, so those messages land in the same operator inbox as website chat. The WhatsApp Business API side has its own Meta conversation charges, which sit outside your SalesIQ subscription — budget for both, and confirm current rates on Zoho's pricing page.
